Our local legislators continue to hold community forums each week to give constituents a chance to voice their questions, comments and concerns. 10th District State Senator Jake Chapman says one of the issues that is being brought up regularly is that of gun control. So far, he says it doesn’t look like any changes will be made here in Iowa but he does not think taking away people’s 2nd amendment rights is the solution.
Senator Chapman says he doesn’t see anything significant coming out of this session in terms of gun control but he says in light of the recent tragedies in the U.S. mental health does need to be discussed.
Chapman says he believes the number of recent tragedies in the U.S. have sparked a lot of this discussion but measures do need to be taken to prevent them from happening again. Though he does not feel taking guns away from citizens is the answer.
