Because of the significant rise in reported cases of pertussis, the Iowa Department of  Health, Bureau of Immunization will require a one-time booster dose for tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis, also known as Tdap.  Guthrie County Public Health Nursing Administrator Lisa Chiodo says the vaccine is for students enrolling in grades seven and up, if born on or after September 15th, 2000, and it will be required at the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year.

Guthrie County Public Health will be hosting school-based clinics in Panora, Guthrie Center, and Adair/Casey for adolescents to get a Tdap booster shot.

Chiodo would like to inform parents that this is being offered at no charge, but a $10 donation is appreciated.

If you have questions, or for more information, Chiodo asks parents to contact their child’s school nurse; or, find us on Face book! Guthrie County Public Health Nursing Services Chiodo added.
