The Guthrie County Soil & Water Conservation District would like to remind students and their parents that they annually award scholarships to students who are planning to pursue an education in the field of agriculture or natural resources.

Soil Conservation State Secretary Cathy Sheeder says the field of agriculture has grown significantly and has evolved into something more than just farming.  Sheeder explained that students can study for a career with the Department of Natural Resources as a Game Warden; they can take courses and design equipment or even design programs to run the equipment.

Sheeder urges all students who plan to go on to college and pursue a degree in Agriculture or Conservation based programs apply for these scholarships.  All applications must be received by March 12 and you must apply in the District in which you live.

Sheeder says that one entry from the District’s applications is then chosen to go on to compete for one of three Conservation District of Iowa scholarships in the amount of $3000, $2000 and $1500.

Those interested should either contact their school guidance counselor, stop by the Guthrie County Soil and Water Conservation District Office at 1000 School Street in Guthrie Center or call Cathy Sheeder at 641-332-2812.
