The Greene County Supervisors met yesterday in the boardroom of the county courthouse.

During the open forum, Roger Aegerter with Tower View Committee asked the Board’s permission to go ahead with plans to have a donated piano on the plaza for the public to use.  When the bell tower is open during the summertime, it was suggested that the piano be stored inside so that no one steals it at night.  The Supervisors agreed that they didn’t have a problem with those plans.

Don Dumlop announced to the Board that he is officially withdrawing his application to the drainage district 190 annexation with Bruce and Meryl Youngblood.  He told the Supervisors he is offering to pay $10,000 for his portion of the drainage project.  County Drainage Supervisor Michelle Fields says she is going to check with City Engineer John Milligan about whether or not there needs to be a change in the resolution or if the land needs to be reassessed.

The Board then held a public hearing for the fiscal year 2014 county budget.  There was no objection from the public and so the Board voted 4-1 and approved the county budget and the 2% compensation increase for all county employees.  The budget includes $9,426,164 in expenditures and a rural levy rate of 9.36%.  Supervisor Chair John Muir says he’s happy with how the budget turned out, especially during tough economic times.

“We’re able to lower the levy rate.  We’ve got good fund balances, 25%-26% in all of them and we’re feeling good about where its at.  When you visit with other county officials, I think right now we’re sitting good.”

In the other business, the Board approved the county recorder’s report for February fees and to purchase a $6,600 copier machine for the county auditor’s office.
