Officials with Hy-Vee, Incorporated announced yesterday that they have plans to build a Hy-Vee supermarket in Jefferson.
The plans are to build a 32,000-square foot supermarket at the intersection of North Vine and Adams. It will be a full-service supermarket with a HealthMarket department for natural and organic products and there will be a bakery and kitchen area for dining in and carrying out.
The Hy-Vee Drugstore on Lincoln Way in Jefferson will be replaced by the pharmacy at the new location with all staff transferring to the new location.
Assistant Vice President of Hy-Vee’s North Central District Jen Kopriva says that if the plans get approved by the city, then the new store will create 140 full- and part-time jobs for the community.
At Tuesday’s city council meeting, Hy-Vee representatives will be there to make a presentation and discuss its application to rezone the North Vine site. If everything gets approval, then construction could start as early as this fall and open in 2014.
