The Power Lift factory along east Highway 30 in Jefferson was the site of the Friday night portion of the annual Jefferson-Scranton football clinic. Among the speakers was Indianapolis Colts director of strength and conditioning Roger Marandino. He told Raccoon Valley Radio the Colts would be starting their off-season program soon, which means primarily strength work and conditioning, with some football mixed in. “We’re always getting them prepared for the next thing, which is training camp and the actual season itself,” Marandino. On the NFL athlete, he said, “They’re elite, without a question. They’re motivated, they’re dedicated professionals, from my view. They’re special human beings that work very hard. They are work hard, but some of them work exceptionally hard and normally those are your exceptional players.”

The Colts were a surprise playoff qualifier with rookie quarterback Andrew Luck from Stanford University leading the offense. The team was also without head coach Chuck Pagano for most of the season due to cancer and subsequent treatments. “Chuck Pagano is one of the best people I’ve ever met,” Marandino said. He went on to say the head coach’s health is good and everyone within the organization is looking forward to the 2013 season.

University of Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz is today’s headliner. The Hawkeyes’ coach speaks at 10:30 a.m. today inside the Greene County High School theatre in Jefferson.
