History Boy Theatre Company in Jefferson will be holding pre-auditions tomorrow night for its upcoming musical production of the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

Co-Owner Angie Pederson says this play is unique in that it requires nine adults playing characters that get in touch with their inner child.

“It won the Tony (Award) for best musical about five years ago.  And all the actors are adults in the show, but 95% of the characters are kids.”

There are nine roles, five men and four women, with one character as a non-singing role.  She describes the background of the award winning musical.

“The show tells the story of all of these kids coming together at this point in their life and their in a spelling bee, a high tension situation.  As limited as that story line is, its a wonderful growth of these characters.”

There will be a pre-auditions held tomorrow night at 7pm.  Pederson explains that people who audition tomorrow night will get an extra benefit of hearing the music from the production, see the actual script and familiarize yourself with the show.  Regular open auditions will be on Saturday, March 23rd.  Pederson asks that you come prepared to go through some choreography and have about 60-seconds of singing material ready.
