The Greene County Supervisors met yesterday in regular weekly session.

City Administrator Mike Palmer gave several updates to the Board about projects and event going on in Jefferson.

He first updated the Board on Hy-Vee, Incorporated’s plans to build a 32,000-square foot supermarket in Jefferson.  He said that if the city council approves the plans, then there will be road construction included by the intersection of Vine Street and Adams and along Washington Street.  Some of the properties that Hy-Vee acquired need to be rezoned and Hy-Vee officials have told the city that if they planned on building a facility in Jefferson, they needed to be closer to downtown, which is why they chose the property that they did.  Palmer noted that Fareway’s facility is 22,000-square feet and so Hy-Vee’s would be a difference of 10,000-square feet.

Palmer briefly mentioned Cobblestone Hotels is still on track to begin construction right around the time the Hy-Vee’s construction might begin in the fall.  He finished by talking about the city approving the purchase of the golf course and calling in Jefferson Municipal Golf Course and to have Mike Healy and his staff manage it with a lease agreement.

Terry Johnson with Genesis Development gave his monthly update to the Supervisors.  He said that due to the program’s “re-design”, Greene County would lose out on funding from the state while counties like Warren and Dallas would increase their funding.  Greene County also didn’t qualify for any transition funds while Dallas County would receive around $490,000 and Warren County would get $1.4 million.

Johnson then reported about one of their care centers in Toledo reducing its staff from 40 to 15 people.  And there was a concern brought up about the number of homeless people in county and the need to take care of them.  More information needed to be gathered before a discussion could take place.
