The Jefferson City Council met last night in regular session.

The main focus of the meeting was about Hy-Vee Incorporated’s plans to build a facility.  Assistant Vice President of Store Development and Real Estate Peter Hosch made the initial presentation to the council.  He said that the project would be a $5-6 million investment with potentially starting construction in September of this year and finishing in 10 months.  The facility would be a 24-hour store and Hosch adds that in Sheldon there is a similar structure that’s been in business for 15 months and is co-existing with the established Fareway quite well.

The rezoning portion of the discussion was about changing parts of the property from multi-family residential to commercial.  There are also plans to extend the parking lot across Adams Street right up to the Greene County Extension Office and have an access drive installed there.

The council vote to approve the request for Hy-Vee to rezone and now it will go to the Planning and Zoning Committee to finalize rezoning the entire property.

In other business, the council approved the ACC Overlay Project for bidding requests and there will be a public hearing at March 26th’s meeting.

Other items the council approved were the city’s insurance plan for liability properties at $123,699, paying $7,800 for eight trash receptacles around the town square, making a lease agreement plans for MALH, LLC. to manage the municipal golf course and paying another installment of $45,029.83 to the downtown restoration project.
