The Jefferson-Scranton School Board of Directors will meet tonight.

During the work session, various fine arts departments will be the focus of discussion.  Foreign languages, art, music and physical education will each make presentations to the Board.

Jefferson-Scranton Superintendent Tim Christensen says that work sessions have been going on for three years and it allows the Board to focus on curricular areas throughout the school year.  He explains what happened when curricular discussions were lumped together with regular school board meetings.

“The board meetings themselves (are) kind of dedicated to business.  When we did talk about some curricular things during then, the meeting stretched on pretty long and it’s hard to focus on those with the other business at hand.”

Christensen comments on how important the fine arts department is in education.

“Fine arts programs, to me, are extremely important and establishing a well-rounded student is important and is key.  We’ve had an excellent tradition here with fine arts program at Jefferson-Scranton and I believe that will continue with the Greene County Schools.”

The work session will be from 5:15-6:30pm at the South Grade Building in Jefferson.  Tonight’s meeting is discussion based and no actions will take place.  Following the Jefferson-Scranton School Board meeting will be the first meeting of the Greene County School Board of Directors at 6:30pm also at the South Grade Building.
