The City of Scranton will be holding its annual 6-on-6 basketball tournament and soup supper fundraiser tomorrow.

For the last several years, the 6-on-6 basketball tournament has featured women’s teams but this year, the local Granny Panties women team will be playing against the Scranton Fire Department.  Greene County Supervisor member and Past Scranton Mayor Dawn Rudolph explains why there’s a change in the competition for this year’s fundraiser.

“Well in the past, we’ve played other women 6-on-6 teams and we just thought we do a little change up this year in our lineup.  It was brought to my attention by the firemen that they would like to participate in this.  And we thought it would be a crowd pleaser, which I think it will be.  We’ve been practicing with them and teaching them the rules of the 6-on-6.  They’re going to put on a good show for you.”

In addition to the main event of the 6-on-6 basketball game, there will be several other events and entertainment.  The Scranton Town and Country Band will perform before the game and the Scranton Betterment Committee’s soup supper will kick off the night at 5pm.  Rudolph says everything is homemade and local carry outs will be made available.  There will even be a silent auction and a half court shot contest at halftime of the 6-on-6 game.

The cost for either event or both is $6 for people 13 and older, 6-12 will be $3 and kids 5 and under are admitted for free.  The soup supper is at 5pm at the Scranton Community Center with the game to begin at 6:30pm.  All the money will go back to the City of Scranton for future community projects.
