Several area students have qualified for the Iowa High School Speech Association’s Individual Events All-State Festival.

In order to earn a spot at the individual all-state festival, a student must receive straight division “I” ratings from all three judges in the competition room and be recommended by at least two of the three judges at the state contest.

Perry students Hawn Wong and Andy Wolter will be performing at the University of Northern Iowa’s campus on Monday, March 25th.  Wong qualified in improvisation and Wolter will be performing in prose.

Other area schools that will send students to the all-state festival are: Dallas Center-Grimes, Panorama, Adair-Casey, West Central Valley, Waukee and Guthrie Center.  A total of 16 students will represent their respective high schools from the Raccoon River Valley area.

Opening ceremonies will at the McLeod Center at 8:30am on Monday.

Dallas Center-Grimes: Jessica Connelly (Poetry)

Guthrie Center:  Patrick Aherns (Improvisation) and Jared Calvert (Radio News)

Panorama:  Allison Bump (Original Oratory) and Allison Meinecke (Literary Program)

Perry:  Hawn Wong (Improvisation) and Andy Wolter (Prose)

Waukee:  Joel Berner (Spontaneous Speaking), Harrison Cook (Literary Program) and Michael Cragmile (Public Address)

West Central Valley:  Elaine Meyers (Literary Program), Liam Crawford (Acting), Vince Doud (Acting) and Shawn Murphy (Acting)
