Rose Acre Farms, located outside of Stuart, in conjunction with the United Egg Producers, is helping in the fight against hunger by recently donating approximately 35,000 eggs to the Food bank of Iowa in Des Moines.

Rose Acre Farms is a third-generation family-owned egg farmer with facilities in Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, North Carolina and Missouri.  Rose Acre Farms has been serving Iowa for over 30 years with facilities in Guthrie Center, Stuart and Winterset.  Stuart’s Rose Acre Farms Branch Manager Andy Kaldenberg says company wide, Rose Acres Farms services 13 different food banks with approximately 1,500 cases of eggs each year.

Kaldenberg assisted in unloading pallets of eggs into the food bank warehouse and says in the years he’s gone to the Iowa Food Bank he’s never seen their stock so low.  Kaldenberg was amazed that as soon as the eggs got loaded into the food bank, they were being distributed out the door to people in need.   Eggs are always a prized item for food banks due to their dense nutritional and high protein content, but they are also one of the hardest food categories for food banks to acquire Kaldenberg added.

For the sixth consecutive Easter, the United Egg Producers organized a nationwide effort to give families a helping hand.  Across the United States, egg farmers plan to donate nine million fresh eggs this year, brining the total number of fresh eggs donated by egg farmers since 2008 to 69 million.
