On Tuesday, the Greene County High School jazz choir, Jazzatonics competed at the Iowa Vocal Jazz Championships at Ballard High School in Huxley.

The group received fourth place out of eight participating schools in Class 3A.  Director David Heupel says there were several submissions in Class 3A and to be selected for one of only eight spots for the competition is quite an honor.  Last year, the group finished eighth out of 11 entries.

The three schools that were ahead of Greene County High School were Dallas Center-Grimes, Solon and Glenwood.  All three schools are past winners of the last three jazz championships.  Heupel says he has a high regard for those school’s programs and directors.

Jazzatonics are led by its five seniors:  Kyle Roeder, Tabitha Yoder, Megan Walsh, Adam Orfield and Hannah Ober.
