Greene County senior Jake Christensen took some five seconds off his previous career best time in an open 800 meter run when he finished second in Gowrie on Monday at the Prairie Valley Relays in 2:03.98. He has been timed faster as part of relays, but not in the individual 800 meters. Christensen was timed in 56 seconds for the opening lap and he talked to Raccoon Valley Radio about his strategy going forward. “I’m pretty happy with the first lap, maybe get it down to a 55, but my goal right now is to finish the last lap really hard and to break two minutes.”

Only a handful of Rams have ever run sub-two minutes in the 800 meter run, so Christensen will join an exclusive club if he’s able to accomplish the feat. He was asked what it would mean to him and his team if he can going under two minutes. “I would feel like I would accomplish a lot and would help out the team by going under two minutes if I can get it.”

The Greene County boys next have a meet on the schedule for Friday, April 12 when they see a heavy dose of Hawkeye 10 Conference competition at the Creston Panther Relays.
