There were over 500 people who participated Greene County’s Relay for Life event on Saturday at the Greene County Community Center.

Relay Chair Peg Raney was delighted to have such support from the community.  She says that as of Saturday, the total amount raised is $49,831 and she expects it to go over $50,000 with a few teams left to turn in money.

On Saturday, the silent auction raised $4,564, the community barbecue brought in over $1,600, the luminarias received over $1,700 in donations while the business sponsors gave $11,050 in contributions.

She gives her reaction to the evening and the helped she received to put on an event like Saturday night.

“It is just very personally gratifying and each of these committees have worked so hard along with all the teams to be able to put together funding for us to able to put right to the American Cancer Society for research and support for all of our cancer patients and their families.”
