The chilly and rainy spring weather has set some road construction projects back for Jefferson and Greene County.

The weather has already been blamed for the postponement of Union Pacific Railroad’s replacement project to a broken rail on Highway 30 in Grand Junction.  Greene County Engineer Wade Weiss says originally the Iowa Department of Transportation wanted to start construction on April 22nd but delayed it because of inclement weather.  Weiss states that project will begin Monday, April 29th.  Once it begins, the detour route will be highway 169 to county road E-26 to highway 144 for approximately 10-14 days.

Mother Nature struck again after the beginning of the Jefferson ACC Asphalt Overlay road construction project came to a halt for the better part of four days last week.  In fact, because of the slow start to resurface Washington Street from Vine Street to Locust Street and Locust Street from Washington Street to Lincoln Way, more projects have been added on.

City Engineer John Milligan reported at the recent city council meeting that Fort Dodge Asphalt has agreed to resurface the alleyway on the west side of City Hall and replace the gutters and sidewalk by Larry’s Restaurant and Lounge.  The added cost is $30,000 which now makes the total $251,995.75.  Milligan says the asphalt overlay construction will be completed within the next three weeks.
