boatsGreene County residents are reminded that boat registration deadline is approaching.

County Recorder Marcia Tasler says the deadline to register all boats without a penalty is Tuesday, April 30th.  She states that the boat registration is valid for three years.

The cost per registration varies with the length of a boat.  Tasler comments that the typical boat she sees are 16-foot boats which are $40.90 and anything under 16-foot are charged a $27.40 fee.

However, she says people should call her and ask about the fees because the Iowa Department of Natural Resources have changed them from previous years.

“Well we went web-based with the DNR, it’s called the Rivers System.  And it changed the fees alittle bit, (I) mean only like $1 or $2, which they would need to call.  It’s not the same as what’s on the registration for the last three years.”

Tasler points out that you have to register your boat with the county that you live in.

If you register your boat after April 30th, there will be a flat $5 penalty.  For more information or to find out about any fees, call county recorder Marcia Tasler at 386-5670.
