Greene County Deputy Sheriff, Kirk Hammer was the lead investigator of a fatal farm accident that occurred in a farm field located on 195th Street between Q and R Avenue. 41 year old Robert George Wilson of Paton, Iowa, was fatally injured when caught between a semi-tractor trailer tender truck and the front tire of a Terra Gator fertilizer applicator.  Wilson was on the ground helping fill the Terra Gator with nitrogen fertilizer when the Terra Gator lurched forward striking and pinning him for a short time against the semi-trailer bed.  Robert Wilson was transported to the Greene County Medical Center by Grand Junction Fire and Rescue and assisted by Greene County Emergency Medical Services. Wilson was later flown by Life Flight to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, where he was pronounced dead.

A deputy helped a female that had walked to Scranton and was attempting to find a residence in Scranton where she was to spend the night.

A deputy was advised of a pickup truck that was blocking the alley near Perkins Street in Churdan. The owner of the vehicle was found and the truck was moved.

A deputy was advised of a male subject that is consuming alcohol and driving in the Scranton area. The deputy was not able to locate the vehicle or driver at that time.

A Greene County deputy with the assistance of the Iowa State Patrol, arrested Kaleb Lentz of Grand Junction for OWI first offense, driving while barred, a stop sign violation, speeding 88MPH in a 55MPH zone, improper registration and failure to prove security against liability.

Saturday, April 27th

A deputy helped a motorist on 220th Street and J Avenue.

A deputy was advised that the Casey’s Store in Scranton had reported the theft of two LP 15 lbs. cylinders from the propane storage rack on the outside of the building. A deputy initiated an investigation into the theft.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office was advised of a male and female subject that were attempting to steal copper wire from the old sale barn just south of Rippey. Three Greene County deputies, the sheriff and a Boone County deputy responded to Rippey to search for the pair that had fled on foot. Deputy’s subsequently found and arrested Tereva Marlene Hall of Carroll, Iowa, and Brandon Thomas Kiley of Jefferson for burglary 3rd degree with more charges to follow upon completion of the investigation.

A deputy was asked to help locate an erratic driver that was entering Greene County from Boone County. Boone and Greene County deputies were unable to locate the vehicle.

A deputy, while executing a routine traffic stop, at N Avenue and 130th Street did subsequently arrest Don Eugene Wallace of Churdan, Iowa, for OWI 2nd offense and operating a motor vehicle without a valid license.

Sunday, April 28th

A deputy was asked to do a welfare check on a resident in Rippey. The deputy could not find anyone home at that time.

A deputy was advised of a vehicle that had left the roadway on Highway 25 near 270th Street and rolled several times ending up in a farm field. Upon the deputy’s arrival he was unable to find the driver of the vehicle. It was reported that the driver had left the scene of the accident and was being transported by a private vehicle to a destination unknown. It was later determined that the driver of the 1998 Jeep Wrangler was Cameron Allen Hilgenberg of Bayard, Iowa. Hilgenberg was taken to the Guthrie County Hospital with the extent of his injuries to be unknown at this time. Charges are pending upon the completion of the investigation. The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, Scranton Fire and Rescue and the Greene County Emergency Medical Services all assisted with the accident.

In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
