The Mahanay Bell Tower in Jefferson will have its grand opening for the year on May 1st, May Day.

The public can ride to the top of the 168-foot structure from 10am-4pm on Wednesday for free.  Peg Raney with the Bell Tower Community Foundation says they wanted to show their appreciation to everyone for contributing to the Bell Tower.

Greene County Chamber Executive Director Ken Paxton says there’s one unique item for people to check out at the Bell Tower.

“We have a historic film that’s running in the lobby on our tv down there that kind of gives you the history of the Bell Tower and kind of a fun way to know more about your community.  So often people live in a community and really don’t know some of the details about the history and this will give you a little information on that.”

The Bell Tower will be open weekends in May and daily from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Cost for the tour will be $3 for everyone five and older and $2 for anyone under the age of five.
