ralph wattsTime is running out for state lawmakers to finish up business during the 85 Iowa General Assembly.

The legislative time table sets a deadline for the House and Senate to finish the session and Republican District 19 House Representative Ralph Watts says any work completed after that day doesn’t include their daily stipend.

“For 110 days legislators are paid I think $130 per day for living expenses, they rent their homes, they pay for their meals, whatever other expenses they have.  That runs out so after that point in time we’ll have added intensive to close down the legislature and get out of town” says Watts.

Watts says they are making head-way to get things wrapped up this week, though there are budget hang-ups in the Senate that could take a while.

Watts says though there is pressure to get things finished on time, House Republicans are holding true to their budgeting principles and will continue to work as long as it takes to end the session fiscally responsible.
