17 Greene County High School students competed at Iowa Skills/USA Championships at the DMACC campus in Ankeny and at the Air National Guard in Des Moines on Friday.
Senior Kyle Youngblood received first place in Precision Machining and junior Sean Kenan was first place in sheet metal competition. Youngblood and Kenan have qualified to compete in the National Skills/USA contest in Kansas City, Missouri in June. They both qualified for nationals last year.
Seven others placed in the top three in their skill contests but only first place moves on to the national competition.
High School Industrial Technology Teacher Chuck Wenthold says that all the students who competed at Friday’s contest have been in vocational classes all year. He points out that they took nine students last year to the national competition.
