This unexpected snow storm from yesterday has halted farming in and around the Guthrie County. Veteran Farmer, Pat Doud, says we just have to wait until the conditions get drier.

Doud says we’ve needed the moisture lately but this snow will both help and hurt local producers. It will push back the planting of corn for a little while, maybe closer to the middle of May deadline now, but there is still plenty of time left to plant.

Across the country we have not planted much of our corn, Doud says this snow can either damage or help the already planted kernels. It will either act as a barrier to extremely warm temperatures or it could damage the germination if it freezes.

Doud says, that one year is unique and never like another in the years past. The projected time frame for our last frost date is around the twelfth of May.
