Iowa’s spring snowstorm brought trouble for different parts of Greene County.

Sheriff Steve Haupert says that as of yesterday afternoon, there were seven vehicles and one semi-tractor trailer in the ditches due to poor road conditions.  No injuries were reported and no damages were suffered.  Sheriff Haupert comments that several tree branches were down along with power lines making travel difficult in parts of the county.

Snow and wind also caused two electrical incidents.  Close to midnight on Wednesday, Grand Junction Fire Chief Mark Renslow says an electrical fire to a power pole at 601 South 14th Street in Grand Junction was caused by snow and ice.

The second situation occurred on the north edge of Dana where power lines were sparking.  Chief Renslow states that they had trouble finding where the problem started, then they heard a loud sounds followed by several sparks.

Renslow points out that when his fire and rescue unit arrived, Alliant Energy had resolved the problem by tying rope around the two affected lines to keep people safe until power was shut down.
