The Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Grand Junction Fire and Rescue and Jefferson Fire Department were dispatched to a head-on collision involving a semi-tractor trailer and pickup truck. Jacob Mariah Taggart, 25, of Scranton, crossed the centerline of US Highway 30, near W Avenue, for unknown reasons, and struck the semi-tractor trailer head on. Taggart was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi, Vitor Marques, 29, of Newark, New Jersey, was transported to the Greene County Medical Center and was later released. Hwy 30 was ordered closed for several hours. The accident investigation report is being completed by the Iowa State Patrol.

A deputy was asked to check for abuse or neglect to several animals and reptiles in the 1500 block of T Avenue.

A caller advised the Greene County Law Enforcement Center that his disabled vehicle would soon be removed from the intersection of Redwood and Quaker Avenues.

A deputy was advised of an unknown vehicle driving in a farm field near K Avenue and 110th Street.

The Juvenile Anti-Alcohol Grant Task Force (JAAG) visited several bars in Greene County with the emphasis on the sale of alcohol to minors. The undercover alcohol sting resulted in Greene County Deputy Sheriff, David Kersey issuing a citation to Kristine Marguerite Hughes of Jefferson for selling or providing alcohol to a person under 21.

A deputy was asked to check a vehicle that was parked in 400 block of 230th Street. It was later determined that the owner of the vehicle had permission from the property owner to leave his vehicle at that location.

Saturday, May 4th

A deputy assisted the Carroll Police Department with finding a vehicle in Scranton that may have been involved in a hit and run accident at the Fareway Grocery store parking lot in Carroll. All necessary information was gathered by the Greene County deputy and forwarded to the Carroll Police Department.

A deputy was advised of a black 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix that was in the ditch at W Avenue and 295th Street. The owner of the vehicle, Zachary Norgren of Rippey stated that someone had taken his vehicle without his consent. The vehicle was not locked and the keys were left in the vehicle at the time of the theft. The deputy initiated an investigation at that time.

A deputy was asked to check on the welfare of a one year old child in the 900 block of East Main in Grand Junction. The Department of Human Services was advised of the situation and an investigation was initiated and is ongoing.

The owner of farmland in the area of the 700 block of 215th Street called the Greene County Law Enforcement Center to advise a deputy that several people hunting turkeys had found a vehicle with no license plates out in his timber. It was determined that the car was driven to that location around the 29th of April. The car was identified through the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and found to have been stolen from a car dealership in Osage on April 26th 2013.

A deputy was advised of cattle in the ditch on Highway 144 and U Avenue. Upon the deputy’s arrival the cattle were not found.

A deputy checked an unoccupied vehicle at I Avenue and 120th Street. The vehicle was found to have a flat tire and a 24 hour removal tag was placed on the vehicle.

A deputy was asked to assist the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office with a developing situation in the 2100 block of B Avenue in Greene County. Upon both deputies arrival the matter was resolved peacefully.

In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are innocent until proven guilty.
