The high school baseball and softball seasons in Iowa begin on Monday, May 20, and area teams are preparing for the upcoming campaigns. Tom Kennedy is the softball head coach at Greene County High School and Mark Sawhill is the head baseball coach. The Rams were 26-8 in softball last season and co-champions of the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference with PCM (Monroe). All but one starter from the 2012 team returns and hopes are high. Seniors Jennifer Kennedy and Mady Adamson combine for nine seasons of varsity starting experience. They told Raccoon Valley Radio Network that winning the conference championship outright was one of the goals they have for this season. This is the first baseball season as Greene County with combined enrollments from the East Greene and Jefferson-Scranton districts. Neither EG or J-S had a winning baseball season last year, so hopes are that the win total will improve with the combined program.

Greene County opens the baseball season in Bondurant vs. Bondurant-Farrar on May 20 while the Rams begin the softball season in Jefferson on May 20 vs. Denison-Schleswig. The softball game can be heard around 7:20 p.m. on KGRA 98.9 FM.
