photoThe Perry Community School District Board of Education held their regular monthly meeting last night.

After a public hearing the board approved an amendment to the fiscal year 2013 budget with no increase in taxes.

Several presentations were then heard.  Talented and Gifted program coordinator Carol Ryerson then gave a brief update to the board in regards to summer learning opportunities.  Elyse Brimeyer, director of teaching and learning then spoke about upcoming professional development opportunities for district staff.  Elementary Principal Kelly Schloss and several teachers then spoke about he Iowa Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development about the recent conference they attended about response to intervention.  Schloss then gave an overview of summer opportunities for elementary students.  Finally, Technology Director Rich Nichols then gave an update on the district’s 1 to 1 initiative for 6th through 12th grade students.

The Board then approved renewal of a cooperative food purchasing agreement with the Iowa Association for Educational Purchasing,  approved board policy revisions and district fundraisers for the upcoming school year.  Next the board approved revisions to the student activities and services handbook in regards to Wednesday practice times, student athletic pass prices and game admission.  Darin Steva and students were then approved to attend the National SkillsUSA leadership and skills conference in Kansas City late next month.  The trip will be at no cost to the district thanks to fundraised money.

The board then approved a five cent increase in adult breakfast prices to $1.50, with students still being able to enjoy the meal free of charge.  Student hot lunch prices will also increase by 10 cents next year due to the price increase requirement of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act.

Next the board approved an amendment to the school-based supervision program, accepted a copier purchase bid from Koch Brothers for $2,391 per month for five years, which is expected to save the district $26,861 per year.  Several personnel resignations, transfers and hires were then approved before the board went into a closed sessions for negotiations strategy.
