Jefferson Police BadgeThis spring has certainly been a roller-coaster, but as the weather gets warmer and summer gets closer, Jefferson Police Chief Dave Morlan wants to remind the public about operating golf carts within city limits.

Chief Morlan states that golf carts are permitted on city streets and alleys, but not on primary road extensions which he explains is Highway 4.  He expresses that the driver of a golf cart must be at least 16 years old and have a valid driver’s license.

Other city ordinances concerning golf carts in Jefferson are that the golf cart must have a slow-moving vehicle sign and an orange bicycle safety flag.  The occupants of a golf cart must not exceed the number of seats provided and Chief Morlan adds that any golf cart on a city street must have proof of financial liability coverage issued for that golf cart.

He points out that golf carts are permitted on city streets from sunrise to sunset.  Anyone operating a golf cart on the streets at night maybe issued a citation.
