Last month, a phone survey was conducted with SmartVote from Cedar Rapids and the results from Greene County residents were favorable for a new entertainment facility.

The next step is to canvass the county to get at least 500 signatures on a petition so that it can be put on a ballot for a special referendum vote on August 6th.

Chamber Executive Director Ken Paxton says the new initiative is called Grow Greene County.  He explains what has happened so far and what will continue to happen before the August 6th vote.

“In the next 2, 3, 4 weeks, you’ll be seeing members from the initiative and people out trying to talk to you and educate the county on what’s going on with this particular initiative.  Keep your eyes open for one, a wide range of series of meetings that we’re holding throughout the county and two, just members of the initiative that will be out doing some canvassing to start filling out the petition heading into that initiative.”

Brian Harm is a representative of Grow Greene County and he says he has to turn in the petition signatures by no later than 46 days before August 6th to put it on a special ballot.
