The Jefferson Police Department and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind citizens the National “Click It or Ticket” sTEP Wave program is currently in effect from now until June 2nd.

It’s a state law for motorists in Iowa to wear seat belts at all times while operating a vehicle.  According to Iowa Department of Transportation records, Iowa experienced 364 traffic-related fatalities and close to half of those victims were unbuckled.

During the last traffic seat belt enforcement program in March, the Jefferson Police Department issued 75 warnings and no citations from March 14th-17th.

The Jefferson Police Department urges motorists to always wear seat belts and that they enforce violations for not wearing seat belts all year around not just during the National “Click It or Ticket” campaign.
