Recycling at times can be a forgotten habit, and currently the county of Guthrie is one of a few West Central Iowa counties to receive a grant to Reinvigorate Recycling.

Mary Wittry Regional Contact for West Central Solid Waste says that this is very important grant, that was applied for last year “industry wide it seems that recycling is going down a little bit.”

This will help to bring around new education that will bring more life back into recycling, says Wittry.

Wittry believes that numbers seem to be dropping because the program is old, “the newness has worn off, and it seems to be easier to not take the extra time to take that soup can out to the recycle bin.”

Wittry, truly believes that with this grant there will be new life brought into recycling and that the amount of recyclable waste will decrease and not affect our environment as dramatically.
