Scan0001In Jefferson on Friday, a major accident causes severe damage to two vehicles.

According to police records, Lessie Sloan of Jefferson was traveling south on Cedar Street at 1pm when the driver side of her 2007 Lincoln MKX was struck by a 2012 Toyota Corolla Jessica Asmus of Lake City after pulling out of a stop sign west on Clark.

Police Chief Dave Morlan says at that intersection, posted stop signs are for west/east traffic and are suppose to yield to north/south traffic.  He wants to remind the public to use caution with these types of intersections.

“(I) want to remind the public that when coming to a stop sign on a busy intersection to make sure and look left and right and look back again to the left before proceeding to make sure that it’s safe.”

He states that no airbags deployed in either vehicle and that Asmus was transported to Greene County Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

Sloan’s vehicle suffered $6,000 in damages and Asmus vehicle was reported as a total loss.  Asmus was also cited for “failure to yield from a posted stop sign”.
