Jefferson City CouncilThe Jefferson City Council met last night.

The Council approved several items at last night’s meeting.  They approved amendments to the 2012-13 budget with one of the largest increases being the purchase of the golf course which added another $311,000.  The amendments must be turned in to the state by May 31st.  The total ending balance is $6,809,000 down from $7,876,000.

Other agenda items approved were the second reading for the proposed property to be ushered into the Urban Renewal Plan and the second reading to change the zoning of that property from multi-family residential to central business; both for Hy-Vee.  Along with that, Hy-Vee proposed building a parking lot over Adams St. and part of the alleyway behind the extension building which will have a public hearing at the next city council meeting.

The Council also approved the purchase agreement with Home State Bank for $290,000 for ownership of the golf course.  A replacement mower for the Parks and Recreation Department was approved for $10,200 with the older mower going to the golf course.  Four new lights were approved for purchase at $3,000 to be installed at Kelso Park, which are the same indestructible lights used currently at Russell Park.  It was also approved to keep the same contract to allow for garden space at 607 and 709 West Lincoln Way.

The Council approved water line improvement projects for Vine, Reed and Wilson streets around Hy-Vee’s properties and the Council agreed to start gathering bids for those projects to be done this summer.

Finally, The Council passed a 4-1 vote to enter negotiations with the new owners of the Municipal Airport to acquire 13 acres of land from them at a starting price of $135,000.

Mayor Craig Berry announced that the rescheduled date for the Iowa Bike Festival is August 10th in Jefferson.
