Greene County ExtensionThe Greene County Extension office would like to invite the public to its second offering of child care training with a focus on nutrition and exercise.

This workshop will also satisfy required training time for local child care providers.

Extension Coordinator Michael Cooley says the topic how to implement “My Plate” standards in child care environment.  He states that the “My Plate” has replaced the “My Prymid” for dietary requirements from the United States Department of Agriculture.  He describes some of the discussion points for the meeting.

“To help you better image what you’re plate would actually look like and half of that plate is fruits and vegetables.  And then they’re also promoting significantly more so than in the past years, daily activity as well, at least 30 minutes a day of activity.”

The class will be taught by extension health and nutrition specialist Holly Van Heel.

Cooley notes that the class is open to anyone and encourages parents and teachers to attend.  The cost is $10 and the workshop begins at 6:30pm Thursday night at the extension office in Jefferson.  To learn more, call the extension office at 386-2138.
