Jefferson Scranton School DistrictThe Jefferson-Scranton School Board met last night in regular session.

The Board heard an update from the summer reading and lunch programs.  There are about 160 kids from kindergarten through eighth grade enrolled for summer school and there have been over 150 summer lunches provided in the first couple of weeks of the programs.

Greene County Development Corporation President Norm Fandel spoke to the Board about the process of the casino.  He told the Board that the county supervisors will set August 6th as the special referendum date for a vote on the casino topic.

The Board approved several agenda items including having combined wrestling practices with 7-12 graders at the newly established Jefferson Fieldhouse for next school year, purchasing land at East Wilcox Way for $4,500 from Alliant Energy for future construction projects, changing Dave Waskow’s contract from Athletic Director/Physical Education teacher to just AD, continuing an agreement with Greene County Medical Center for medical courses and all submitted fundraisers for the 2013-14 school year were approved.

The Board finished the meeting discussing a board policy change.  The Board decided to approve a first reading to change its current policy that students must attend at least a half a day of school to a full day of school in order to participate in an extracurricular activity.  With the main issue dealing with unexcused absences.
