Greene County lost a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference baseball doubleheader on Wednesday night in Prairie City to PCM. The game on final was 17-10 in a contest lasting close to three hours while the second game went eight innings with the Mustangs coming out on top 4-3. The twin bill started at 5:30 p.m. and didn’t finish until nearly six hours later.

The Rams were the home team in game one and trailed 14-2 in the fifth inning before scoring five times to avoid losing by the 1o-run rule. Senior Alex Gordon took the pitching loss. Senior Tory Beger had two doubles and three runs batted in while sophomore Colton Fitzpatrick had three singles and one RBI, and junior T. J. Lint added three singles. Gordon tripled in a run and sophomore Riah Nelsen singled three times. The Rams had eight erros in the first game.

The second game saw the Rams lead 3-2 before PCM tied the game in the fourth inning. The Mustangs scored in the bottom of the eighth for the win and they improved to 5-4 in conference play while the Rams fell to 3-7 in the league and 7-10 overall. Senior Reed Ostrander pitched the first seven innings and gave way to sophomore Dylan McConnell in the eighth. McConnell pitched 4-2/3 innings the previous night. Greene County had three errors in game two.

Greene County is off tonight before hosting Colfax-Mingo on Friday in Jefferson at Allensworth Field in one varsity game at 5:30 p.m. There will be no JV game vs. the Tigerhawks.
