The final softball game of the regular season is today (Saturday) for the Greene County Rams against Saydel (Des Moines) and the contest will determine whether Tom Kennedy’s team gets a share of the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference title. Greene County is 24-9 overall after Friday night’s 12-0 victory in three innings by the 12-run rule over non-conference opponent South Central Calhoun (Lake City) in Jefferson. In the HOIAC, the Rams are 12-5 and a win would mean a three-way tie for the conference title with both PCM (Monroe) and North Polk (Alleman). Those teams have completed the conference schedule at 13-5. Saydel has six conference losses and the Rams nipped the Eagles 6-5 in Des Moines in May. Saturday’s make up game is the result of a rain out in Jefferson last month.
The Saydel vs. Greene County varsity game can be heard on KG98 at approximately 3:45 p.m. The two program’s JV teams play at 2 p.m.
