The North Polk baseball team downed Greene County 11-2 in Alleman on Monday night. The Comets improved to 24-4 overall and 15-2 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. Coach Dave Middleton’s team clinched no worse than a tie for first place in the league. NP is ranked number two in Class 2A. The Rams fell to 11-15 overall and 5-10 in conference action.

The Comets scored five runs in the first inning and the score stayed 5-0 until the sixth when the Rams scored twice. NP countered with six in the bottom of the inning. Greene County had six hits and three errors while the Comets had 14 hits and two errors.

Senior Matt Paulen took the pitching loss after allowing nine earned runs on 14 hits, two walks, and two batters hit with pitches. He also struck out two. Sophomore Riah Nelsen had two singles for the Rams while junior T. J. Lint and senior Reed Ostrander each had a run batted in.

The Rams are scheduled to face another Class 2A top 10 rated team when the Ogden Bulldogs visit Allensworth Field tonight at 7:30 p.m.
