perry signThe Perry City Council met in regular session last night.

At the meeting, council members spoke about how well the city and volunteers have come together to welcome RAGBRAI visitors and planning committee representative Misty VonBehren shared an update on plans and reminder of activities next Monday.

The council then approved an extension of the Neighborhood Stabilization Program to March 2014 for administrative and technical services.  City Administrator Butch Niebuhr says they’re still looking for property owners who are willing to allow the City to tear down or rehabilitate dilapidated homes or buildings.

An extension to November 30th 2013 was also approved for administrative and technical services for the rehabilitation program.

The council then discussed the animal control ordinance, after the topic was sparked during a previous meeting when a citizen spoke about her grandson’s dog being attacked by a neighbor.  The council talked about possibly making the punishment for vicious dogs stiffer to hopefully deter residents from allowing their pets to cause frequent problems.  They will be fact checking with the police department and city attorney before discussing again at a future meeting.

Next plans, ordering of bids and setting a public hearing for the August 5th meeting was approved for the 2013 Willis Avenue improvement project. Acceptance of the fiscal year 2014 Iowa Department of Transportation grants for the Perry Municipal Airport was approved – pending clarification that the state will be paying for 50% of the approximately $300,000 project.

Finally the council then approved a plat of survey creating parcels “BB” and “CC” for the trustees of the Herman L Rowley Memorial Trust.
