Greene County extended its high school baseball season with a Class 3A District 15 opening round win in Creston on Friday night in a game heard of KG98. The Rams were 8-5 winners vs. the host Creston Panthers to improve to 15-17 on the season while Creston ended its season at 12-19 after they lost for the eighth time in the last nine games.

Sophomore Riah Nelsen went the distance on the pitching mound for Greene County as he improved his record to 6-0. The right hander allowed nine hits and four walks while striking out three batters. Three of the Creston runs were earned. The Rams had three errors while the Panthers committed four errors. Both teams left 10 runners on base.

The Rams led the game from the first inning on as Greene County built a lead of 7-1. The Rams had a run in the first, then scored two each in the second, third, and fourth innings. The final run came in the seventh. Creston had single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, then added two runs in the bottom of  the seventh.

The Rams had 10 hits with two singles by both senior Matt Paulsen and sophomore Alex Rasmussen. Senior Alex Gordon and Nelsen both doubled while sophomores Jake Carey and Dylan McConnell and seniors Tory Beger and Reed Ostrander each singled. Beger, McConnell, Ostrander, Gordon, and Rasmussen each batted in a run.

Next up for Greene County is eighth rated Glenwood in Creston on Monday at 7 p.m. Coverage on KG98 starts just after 6:30 p.m. Glenwood, also nicknamed the Rams, is 26-9 on the season after winning in Creston on Friday night vs. Winterset by a final of 8-1.
