Gone from the Greene County Rams softball program are multiple first team all-conference players Mady Adamson and Jennifer Kennedy. The duo was instrumental in the Rams tying for Heart of Iowa Activities Conference titles in 2012 and ’13 and both were on the all-conference first team more than once in their careers…Kennedy also has all-state honors behind her name.

Despite losing two great players head coach Tom Kennedy sees the future of his softball program as bright. After all, eight starers return from this season’s 26-10 team and seven of the eight started in ’12 when the Rams were 26-8. Returning that many starters from teams that won that many games would like make any coach look forward to the future, which Coach Kennedy does. He points to developing depth as one of the priorities for 2014, along with some players dealing with possible position switches for next season. Kennedy was the number one pitcher the last two seasons with sophomore Marissa Promes as number two. Promes is likely to move into that top pitching role, which means the Rams need to find a catcher. Adamson played third base for four years, so someone new will be taking over that spot as well.

In addition to all the returning varsity starters, the coaching staff will look to a number of girls from the Junior Varsity team that went 20-6 this season to move into varsity roles, be it as starters or coming off the bench.
