A Perry Middle School teacher has been selected to participate in a national educator institute this summer.

Carla Wood was chosen from a pool of more than 500 applicants to take part in the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources summer teacher institute.

The five day program takes place August 5th through the 9th in Washington D.C.  Wood and fellow participants will work with experts to learn effective practices for using primary sources in the classroom while exploring digitized historical artifacts and documents on the Library’s website.

Primary sources are the raw materials of history such as original documents and objects that were created at the time under study.  The goal of the institute is to help teachers show students how to become engaged learners and build critical thinking skills through these sources.
