When the Class 2A High School State Baseball Tournament semifinals take place Thursday night at Principal Park in Des Moines, players and coaches from the Greene County Rams may be as well versed with the teams as anyone. The Rams played three of the four 2A semifinalists during the 2013 season, going a collective 1-4 against those teams. Heart of Iowa Activities Conference members North Polk (Alleman) and Roland-Story (Story City), along with Hawkeye 10 Conference member Kuemper Catholic (Carroll), join number one ranked Beckman, Dyersville in the 2A final four. The Rams have met all but Beckman during the season. Coach Mark Sawhill’s Rams lost 8-4 to Kuemper and dropped a pair of one-sided games to NP. The Rams and R-S split a June doubleheader in Jefferson with the Norsemen winning 1-0 in the first game and the Rams winning 5-2 in game two. Sophomore Riah Nelsen was the winner vs. R-S en route to his 6-0 season as a pitcher.

Beckman meets R-S at 6 p.m. Thursday with NP and Kuemper in the 8 p.m. game.
