ADM senior Dylan Nelson will continue to play baseball this summer when his select team travels to Fargo, North Dakota today.

The Carroll County Merchants is an American Legion team that travels all over the Midwest playing against teams in South Dakota, Nebraska as well as Iowa.

ADM head coach Jason Book says Nelson tried out and was accepted to the team before the spring along with other players from around the area such as Ogden pitcher Preston Church.

Coach Book comments that the Merchants won the state’s Legion tournament in May and will advance to play in the Central Plains Regional Tournament in Fargo, North Dakota consisting of teams from Minnesota, North and South Dakota and Nebraska.

According to the American Legion website, the Carroll County Merchants are one of 64 teams nationwide that will compete for a spot at the national tournament.  They are slated to play the Nebraskan runner-up later today.

If the Merchants win the regional tournament, coach Book adds, they will move on to the national tournament in North Carolina.
