ADM senior pitcher Dylan Nelson’s Carroll County Merchants select baseball team ends their season in dramatic style at the Central Plains Regional American Legion Tournament over the weekend.

The Iowa representative reached the semifinals of the American Legion tournament on Sunday after going 2-1 Thursday through Saturday, as they fell 6-5 in nine-innings to Nebraska’s Omaha, Westside at Fargo, North Dakota.

In the regular nine-inning game, Nelson went eight strong innings on the mound and had the lead 5-1 going into the bottom of the ninth when he ran into trouble.

Westside scratched five base hits off of Nelson to start the inning and left the game with the bases loaded but three straight hit-by-pitches from relief pitcher Brendon McAllister led to the last two runs of the game to score and Westside went on to win 6-5.

Nelson ended up going eight plus innings, gave up eight hits for five earned runs while walking two and striking out seven.  He went four-for-five offensively with one RBI in that game.

The ADM who will be attending Three Rivers Community College in Missouri next year had a (1-1) record as a pitcher with 10 total strikeouts and only two walks while allowing nine hits for the tournament.  He also went a combined 7-for-17 at the plate with two runs scored, one walk and two RBI’s.

Omaha, Westside played for the championship against Burnsville, Minnesota and the right to go on to the American Legion National Tournament in North Carolina later this month.
