clt7413Many Iowans will be traveling to Des Moines this weekend to visit the popular Iowa State Fair, but some will choose to celebrate locally instead.

Area residents will take part in the 9th annual Linden Daze this Saturday and Sunday.  Judy Hutchins has been on the Linden Daze committee since its origination, and says her town’s party can provide a perfect alternative to the busy Des Moines event.

“I know the State Fair is going on but I thought if you want something a little (more) smaller and heartwarming, we’re a fun-loving community and we always like to show everybody that we can have a good time in a small town.”

Activities at this year’s event include a slow-pitch softball tournament and a parade, plus the addition of a dunk tank this year.  The Ghost Riders will headline the concert on Saturday night and take the stage at 7 o’clock.

Hutchins says she’s partial to the Ghost Riders because her son plays in the band, but what’s really her favorite part of Linden Daze?

“Watching the kids have a good time, seeing people smiling having a good time.  I know all the people that are in these different organizations that help to make this festival—we work very hard and I think the payoff is to see the smile on people’s faces and that they’re having a good time.”

Anybody who would like to volunteer or participate in Linden Daze can contact Hutchins at 641-744-2041.

Additional information:

There is a $150 entry fee for the slow-pitch softball tournament.

The Parade will take place from 11 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Volunteers are needed to get wet for the dunk tank fundraiser!
