The Greene County Development Corporation Board met yesterday in its regular monthly session.

The final sell of the land to Kingdom Hall  for $19,980 is complete and anticipated construction will be later this month.

The next phase of the casino was discussed.  Mike Mumma says that the Iowa Racing and Gaming Board is currently having two requests for proposals for studies conducted with looking at the feasibility of counties and who have passed casino referendum votes, like Greene County, and that study will not be completed until March 6th.  He explains that the Board will mostly likely look at applications for licenses at that time.

Guy Richardson mentioned that Grow Greene County will have a presence at the monthly meetings at the Iowa Racing and Gaming Board has which the next one is at Riverside Casino at Riverside this Thursday.

During the Chamber Executive Director’s report, Ken Paxton talked about finalizing the business plans for the restaurant at Homestead Coffee and Bakery in Jefferson and that they are on track to open in October, pending the outcome of the loan application with Region XII Council of Governments in Carroll.

Chad Schreck, Midwest Partnership executive director, says the project at Scranton Manufacturing is going well.  The City of Scranton and Greene County officials are working together to identify the drainage problem areas and are working with Iowa Economic Development Authority on a $100,000 grant that would not only help to improve drainage but aid in support of future building expansion.

During community reports, ISU Extension Coordinator Michael Cooley reported that they had four people successfully complete the third year of summer internships partnering with the Greene County Community Foundation and they’ve approved plans with Hy-Vee for an agreement to share part of their parking lot with the extension office with construction begins next spring.
