stuart-police-departmentAn update on a story we first reported August 9th… The Stuart Police Department has filed charges against two men they believe attempted to rob a local hotel earlier this month.

38 year-old Courtney Bennett of Omaha, Nebraska and 24 year-old Remo Bennett of Council Bluffs are both charged with 1st degree robbery.

According to Stuart Police, the male suspects are believed to have entered the AmericInn and Suites in Stuart the night of August 8th, displayed a gun to an 18 year-old female staff member and demanded money.  No money was given to them and the suspects allegedly fled to Atlantic where they are believed to have attempted to rob another hotel that same night.

After the second hotel incident, the men were involved in a high speed chase with the Iowa State Patrol near Council Bluffs which ended when they crashed their vehicle.  Both men were injured in the accident and have since been released from the hospital.  They are currently being held in the Cass County jail awaiting trial on their class B felony charges, which carry a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.
