One of the projects approved by the Perry City Council at their meeting this week that’s included in the new $2.2 million loan agreement is construction of a new road called 28th Street.

The road is located between Willis and McKinley Streets and will help access the new expansion to the Rowley Masonic Home.

City Administrator Butch Niebuhr says there’s more to the project than just laying down concrete for a simple roadway.

“There’s going to be water, sewer, storm sewer that will be brought into the site as part of this project” says Niebuhr.

And Niebuhr says it will be a lengthy project that will extend well into next year.

“I would imagine the company would start working on some of the sewer and water this fall yet, and see how much they can get done before the dead of winter.  Paving of the street will not happen until next spring and probably into that April, May, June time period.”

The bid approved at Monday’s meeting was below the engineer’s estimate and will cost $505,900.
