DMACC logoSchool board elections take place tomorrow across the state, but in addition to choosing our next education decision makers voters will also be weighing in on two tax levies.

Both public measures on the ballot have to do with the Des Moines Area Community College, one for equipment and the other for facilities.

Each county in the state votes on a 10 year community college levy to pay for instructional equipment and facility improvements and expansions.

DMACC President Rob Denson says those in the Des Moines area are asked to contribute less than any other area in the state.

“DMACC has the lowest property tax assessment of all 15 community colleges.

The levy has been in place for decades and Perry City Administrator Butch Niebuhr says these funds helped build and equip Perry’s DMACC facility.

“On a local basis for our DMACC center in Perry, the Van Kirk Academy, it was instrumental in putting the welders in there for the welding classes and all the chairs and desks and all the things that make the classroom a classroom” says Niebuhr.

Dallas County polls will be open tomorrow from 7am-8pm.
